Last night, Colin woke up in pain. He complained of head pain and let us know that he wanted to go to the hospital. We tried giving him Tylenol to see if he would settle down but that didn’t last long, so we ended up taking him to the ER in the wee hours.
A CT scan revealed that his ventricles are still stable, but the pain could be intermittent hydrocephalus that occurs when he lies down. He will be admitted for observation for 24 hours and we’ll see how things go from there.
Today, Boston has its brain tumor clinic. Also, Dad is taking the imaging to surgeons in NYC who evidently have a lot of experience with ependymoma. They say that the imaging is often quite deceptive and that in reality it can be much easier to resect than one expects. We are hoping to get their thoughts on Colin’s scans today or tomorrow, but at least they will have the information in hand today.
Hopefully we will have more to report later today! In the meantime, Colin is going to have to hang out in the hospital (the regular pediatric floor). With any luck, we will get him back home again by the weekend.
